West Ham must learn from past mistakes and not give Jack Wilshere a long term contract.

The Sun have reported that Jack Wilshere has been offered only a one-year contract from West Ham in the aftermath of the revelation that Arsenal would not be offering him a new deal.

This has reportedly thrown the potential deal into doubt.

But, even so, The Hammers must stick to their guns when it comes to the left-footed midfielder and learn from their past mistakes.

West Ham know only too well how damaging it can be to give injury plagued stars hefty, substantial contracts.

They only need to look at Andy Carroll for evidence of how draining of club resources taking risks on talented yet inconsistent, injury troubled stars can be.

Wilshere’s ability has never been in doubt, but his ability to maintain fitness has, despite him making 38 appearances for Arsenal last term.

If Wilshere accepts a one-year contract and proves his fitness and ability, it will place him in a strong position moving forward in his once promising career.

It will also give West Ham ample time to assess the England international and if Wilshere can get back to his best, whilst staying fit all season, it would be a brilliant move for both parties.
