Tottenham fans will be hoping their unsung hero Christian Eriksen doesn’t perform too well at this summer’s World Cup.

If you asked football fans who they would consider to be Spurs’ star player, most would throw the names Harry Kane or Dele Alli back in your direction.

Whilst there is no doubt the aforementioned names are brilliant players, what they do wouldn’t be possible without their diminutive Danish teammate.

Eriksen contributed ten goals and 11 assists for Tottenham last season, helping them to a third place finish; shining without pulling up trees.

He is famed for his quiet and humble persona which is perhaps why he goes under the radar slightly.

Despite that, he has been perennially linked with moves to Europe’s biggest clubs just about every season since his move to Tottenham from Ajax in 2013.

This World Cup could prove to be the catalyst for one of Europe’s financial behemoths to make their move.

The 26-year-old has performed well so far at this World Cup, with the highlight being a stunning volley against Australia.

There is precedent for players to shine at a World Cup then be bought for mega-money by one of Europe’s giants – case in point being James Rodriguez who starred for Columbia in 2014 and earned a move to Real Madrid.

There is no doubt if Tottenham were to sell Eriksen, that they would get a colossal fee, with the famously frugal Daniel Levy at the negotiating table and him being contracted until 2020.

But if Tottenham have any designs on moving further up the Premier League table and performing in Europe, they will hope their maestro doesn’t make too much noise this summer.
