Rangers have been offered the opportunity to sign Roma striker Umar Sadiq by Italian heavyweights Roma this summer, according to club insider EstConsultancy.

The Twitter account, who have established themselves as a reputable source surrounding events at Ibrox, claim that the 21-year-old colossus, who stands at 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt), has been advertised to the Light Blues by the European giants, after his loan spell at NAC Breda last season.

The Nigerian born forward scored five goals and chipped in with three assists for the Dutch top flight side in just 12 appearances, while he has two strikes in six outings for his parent club’s senior side, with the Scottish Sun claiming Umar could arrive at Ibrox on another temporary deal.

It is stated that Rangers are hunting strikers this summer, after Kenny Miller’s departure left just Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera as first team options.

Opinion

There is no doubt that the Light Blues are in need of some additional bodies up top and Umar Sadiq could be the man to fire them to some success next season. He might not have a comprehensive record but he has proven that when given the chance he will stick the ball in the back of the net. Whether Steven Gerrard will really want to take that gamble on an unproven hitman remains to be seen, but he is one of numerous options who will likely be made available to the Gers over the coming months. Realistically, they need at least two new bodies in up top, and if the Roma man is one of them then perhaps a more experienced addition would help balance the squad out nicely. Of course, there is no guarantee that Herrera and Morelos will remain at the club once the summer is over, so the Gers faithful might be looking at a completely new forward line when next season kicks off.
