It should come as no surprise that fierce Glasgow rivals Celtic and Rangers are set to battle it out over some transfer targets this summer, with a chance to get bragging rights before the new campaign kicks off.

After reports revealing that the two clubs were keen on Peterborough striker Jack Marriott, a new name has been thrown into the ring for the Old Firm rivals to do battle over – Sheffield Wednesday winger Sean Clare.

The 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) attacker is out of contract with the Owls this summer, which TEAMtalk report has led to a hotly fought race between no less than 14 clubs for his capture.

It is stated that both Rangers and Celtic have held talks over snapping up the giant 21-year-old on a free transfer, with just a minimal compensation to pay – but it must be the Light Blues who take full advantage and smash their rivals aside for his capture.

The young winger might only be kicking off his career but he certainly has a bright future ahead of him, and after time in both League One and the Championship last season, it is time to take it up a level north of the border.

Playing time, which Clare will no doubt view as crucial to his future, is much more of a guarantee at Ibrox than it is Parkhead, or many of the other clubs touted to sign him for that matter.

The Light Blues do need some attacking threat up front after some lacklustre displays and Clare, with his height and pace, would bring an extra arrow to Steven Gerrard’s quiver.

Plus, the Gers would do anything to get one over the Hoops, and this would be seen as them dealing the first blow in the battle for supremacy.
