Glasgow rivals Rangers and Celtic will do anything to get one over each other be it on or off the football pitch – and for that reason the Light Blues should be breaking the bank to sign Peterborough striker Jack Marriott this summer.

The Gers have undergone something of an overhaul already under new manager Steven Gerrard with several new arrivals through the doors at Ibrox, as they look to improve on a campaign mired by issues and eventually resulting in a third placed finish, behind the Bhoys and Aberdeen.

Brendan Rodgers has not been as busy in the transfer market, but his capture has been a much more significant one, breaking their transfer record to bring in striker Odsonne Edouard after his loan spell last season.

Now Rangers might struggle to impose the same financial strength as their local rivals, but there will still need to be some significant spending if they are to close the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

A fee of £6million would be a bank breaking spend for the Ibrox outfit, but with the Daily Mirror journalist James Nursey reporting that Peterborough have put that price tag on goal machine Jack Marriott, it is money they should be looking at splashing this summer.

The 23-year-old netted a mighty 33 goals across all competitions for the League One outfit and it should come as no surprise he is considered seriously hot property among English sides.

If Gerrard means business at Ibrox, then getting the money to spend on the prolific hitman is a must, and with Celtic having splashed out on Edouard, it gives the Gers a chance to prove their spending power and go toe-to-toe with the Hoops in the boardroom.
