West Ham have made contact with Italian side Napoli over a potential move for striker Roberto Inglese this summer, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The broadcaster state that the Hammers have been in touch with the Serie A club to inquire about snapping up the 26-year-old hitman after his impressive form while out on loan at Chievo Verona last summer, where he netted 13 goals in his 36 appearances in both the league and the cup.

It is stated that the Irons are keen on bolstering their forward line this transfer window and that Inglese, who is said to be seeking a permanent exit after his loan spell away from Napoli, is on their list, with initial enquiries made.

Good move for West Ham?

The Hammers are not in desperate need of a new striker but fans will see why Manuel Pellegrini is looking at bringing in another face or two up front.

Andy Carroll is horrifically injury prone, Jordan Hugill has hardly made any impact, Javier Hernandez has been hit and miss and Marko Arnautovic cannot be expected to play a full season without meaningful backup.

Inglese has an average record, and whether he will be able to improve in the Premier League is a question which needs to be asked.

The Irons need a proven hitman if they are to be successful, and the Italian is something of a gamble.

Likely to happen?

West Ham seem to have already made contact, so it proves they are at least somewhat keen on taking him to east London.

It could come down to the asking price and the wages he demands as to whether this is a realistic move, and there will no doubt be others on the shortlist if he does not fit the bill.
