Hibernian midfielder John McGinn has opened up about speculation linking him with a move away from Easter Road this summer to Rangers, hinting that a switch could be on the cards.

The Gers director of football Mark Allen, according to The Daily Record, alerted Steven Gerrard to the availability of the 23-year-old, after having been impressed by the Scottish international’s form, a result of which earned him a Scottish Premiership Player of the Year nomination, only to miss out to Celtic’s Scott Brown.

However, while the five goals and four assists central midfielder has insisted he is not getting carried away with the speculation, he did admit that he would be tempted if a “something really special” came along.

As quoted in The Daily Record, McGinn said: “I still have a year to go at Hibs and I love it there. It will need to take something really special to come along. The speculation is going to come, I just have to deal with it because it is all part of football.

“The speculation is only there because I have been playing well. As a team we have been different class but you must be doing something right when you see your name linked with all these clubs.”

OPINION:

There you have it. To say that it would have to be something really special to lure McGinn away from the Hibbies means that he would most likely be happy with a move to the Light Blues as such a move for a young Scotland international would undoubtedly be considered “special.” Back at the start of the May, Gerrard was said to be informed by Allen about the potential availability of the midfielder who has just one year remaining on his contract at Hibernian. It means that unless a new deal is signed in the coming weeks, the Hibbies may be forced to sell now or else risk losing him for nothing next summer. McGinn’s versatility in the centre of the park makes him an attractive prospect and the fact that he scored a brace against the Hoops back in September of last year has already made him popular amongst the Gers faithful.
