Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been named as the leading candidate for the vacant managerial position with question marks over a clause in the 46-year-old’s recently renewed contract which would allow him to move if one of Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid came in for him, according to The Guardian.

However, a reliable journalist for London.Football, Alasdair Gold, who is in the know on all things to do with the Lilywhites, has revealed there is “No such clause” on Twitter, and it is news that Spurs fans will be thrilled to hear.

The Argentinian manager only signed a new five-year contract at White Hart Lane last week but in the aftermath of Zidane’s exit, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has reportedly named Pochettino as the man he wants at the Bernabeu.

OPINION:

While this might be fantastic news for supporters that there is no such clause that would allow the Argentinian to leave if one of the two Euro giants came in for him, that does not mean that Real Madrid would not be willing to pay whatever it would take to land the Spurs manager – it all boils down to just how desperately they want the former Southampton man. Pochettino has admitted in the past that the only clubs he would be willing to leave North London for are the French champions and the Champions League winners, but whether he will see this as the right time to leave a comfortable job is uncertain. One thing is for sure, and that is in this day and age, contracts are not worth the paper they are written on – there is no loyalty in the game and if there is any club capable of luring a manager away from a stable job, then it is Real Madrid. The coming days will be interesting for sure as Los Blancos continue their hunt to replace Zidane but if they do make an official move for Pochettino, he could well find it very hard to turn down.
