With the news that Goldson could take the armband, it casts further doubt over the future of Lee Wallace who has held the captaincy for the past three seasons but could now be surplus to requirements at Ibrox.

Gerrard himself was a leader at Anfield and it’s sure to be a position that is significant for the Liverpool legend during his time at the Scottish giants.

OPINION:
Goldson has all the qualities and hallmarks that it takes to be a success at Rangers and with the armband he will be the go to man his teammates look to next season when the going gets tough, so there is a huge responsibility on the 25-year-old’s shoulders. There have been a number of great names in the past to have adorned the Rangers captaincy and Gerard will be looking to Goldson to go on in the future and become as successful as some of those to have gone before him – Terry Butcher, Brian Laudrup and Barry Ferguson are just some of the most successful ones. With the medical of Jon Flanagan said to be underway, according to STV, there is a real feeling that there is something big brewing at Ibrox with so many new arrivals and the captaincy is a part of that too as Gerrard continues his quest to go gunning for glory in 2018/19.
