Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has dropped the axe on five senior stars as they are all left behind for the club’s pre-season trip to Spain, according to the Daily Record.

The report states that the new Gers boss has taken a mix of experience and youth away as he runs the rule over his squad for the first time since taking charge at Ibrox, but there will be a number of recognisable names missing from the squad, as well as some fringe figures being included.

It is stated that Lee Wallace, Eduardo Herrera, Fabio Cardoso, Harry Forrester and Jason Holt have all been left in Scotland, with the future of all five of the outcasts in serious doubt with the exit door looming large over them.

Opinion

Fans might be having flashbacks of Pedro Caixinha’s mass clear outĀ of the Rangers senior squad last season, when a whole host of proven talent was shipped out in an exodus. However, Gerrard has already gone about bringing some seriously exciting signings for the Light Blues faithful to watch next season. Those left out of the pre-season trip best start looking for new clubs to ply their trade at, for it appears as though Gerrard has already made his decision on them, and they will not even be given the chance to prove themselves at Ibrox. To be fair, none of the names, with the exception of Wallace and Holt, have been regulars during their time at the club, and fans will likely not complain too much if Gerrard does ship them out the door over the coming months. Whether they are the only ones who the axe will drop on remains to be seen.
