The 26-year-old was signed by Ronny Deila in 2015 but has only made 26 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops.
OPINION
It was never really going to work out for Ciftci and it is not a surprise that Brendan Rodgers has taken the decision to offload him on a free transfer this summer. He has pretty much been out on loan during his entire time at Parkhead, and pretty much all four of his loan spells have been disasters. Ciftci’s time at Plymouth in the first half of this season saw him play just eight times without scoring a goal in the third-tier of English football. If he cannot cut it there, there’s no hope for him with Celtic, or perhaps any other team in Scotland. In the second half of the campaign he did score three goals in 15 appearances across all competitions on loan at Motherwell, but there’s little chance that form will see Stephen Robinson wanting to sign him permanently. It’s hard to see how Ciftci will stay in Scotland now unless Dundee United come back in for him to help their promotion bid for next season. He was pretty decent in his spell at Tannadice and it would be a surprise to see him stay in Scotland if he didn’t wind up back there.
