Wolves have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Sporting CP, who will join the club on a free transfer after ripping up his contract at the Liga NOS outfit – and the Wolves faithful have been absolutely blown away on social media.

The 30-year-old, along with six other players, were attacked by fans at Sporting, prompting them to terminate their contracts and look for other clubs – and Wolves quickly snapped up his services on a free transfer.

The shot stopper is the current Portuguese number one and has travelled with his country for this summer’s World Cup, with their opening match with close rivals Spain ending in a dramatic 3-3 draw.

Patricio has played in Portugal for the whole of his career and is yet to experience English top flight football, and with newly-promoted Wolves, he will get to do just that.

Patricio reached the 2016 European Championship Final with Portugal, defeating France on home soil to lift the trophy with Cristiano Ronaldo and co.

Here is a selection of Twitter responses from Wolves supporters following the confirmation of Patricio’s signing from Sporting CP:

The completed signing of Rui Patricio from Sporting CP follows the £10 million deal for defender Willy Boly from Porto, while Mexican forward Raul Jimenez has joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad on a season-long loan spell.
