West Ham ready to let Reid depart in summer as offers welcomed

|

West Ham are ready to green light the exit of defensive fan favourite Winston Reid this summer as major concerns over his injury history build, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The Twitter account, who has established themselves as a reputable source of inside knowledge on the club, claim that while the club are not going all out to sell him, were the club to receive an appropriate offer they would be willing to let him go.

The 29-year-old, who stands at 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt), has 223 appearances for the Irons under his belt but has struggled with a series of injuries, which are said to be worrying the club.

He managed to appear just 20 times across all competitions last season, with a groin strain and a knee injury limiting him significantly during the final stages of the campaign.

Opinion

West Ham are absolutely right to be willing to sell Reid this summer, for his ability at the back is being seriously hampered by his fitness. A player who cannot be confident in his own body is not going to be able to give his everything in the rough and tumble of the Premier League, and certainly at centre back, where it is perhaps the most physical of positions, he is going to be strained week in, week out. He has been a humble servant for the Hammers, carrying out his duties admirably and without any fuss, and he will always be remembered for his no nonsense, fight to the death attitude. However, while that sort of dedication is admirable, if he is not going to be on the pitch there is no point in keeping him on the books, and a decent offer should see him depart east London, leaving with his head held high for all he has done for the club.
