Real Madrid have prioritised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as their number one managerial target following the resignation of Zinedine Zidane, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Spanish heavyweights are lining up a raid to take the 50-year-old away from Anfield and see him as the leading candidate to become their next manager.

It is understood that Klopp is currently on a £140,000-a-week deal with the Merseyside club and it would take around £28million in compensation for Madrid to prize him away.

OPINION

Klopp may have once again just fallen short of silverware this season by losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League, but there is no doubt he is the right man at the Anfield helm. The animated German boss has managed to win the hearts of the Reds supporters and it feels like huge success is just around the corner. They have managed to make progress on the pitch in the 2017/18 campaign and already look stronger for next year by adding Naby Keita and Fabinho to their midfield. Liverpool fans should be alarmed though by reports that Klopp could be picked up for just £28million in compensation, something that would surely seem like nothing if Madrid really do want him to be Zidane’s successor. However, the report details that Klopp’s heart is at Liverpool for now and surely he will want to see through the job of bringing trophies back to the club.
