Tottenham’s midfield transfer activity has been in the spotlight recently following their interest in signing Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish for £15 million, as reported by the Telegraph, with other clubs also said to be chasing the star.
However, Spurs are also said to have expressed their interest in signing Norwich City midfielder James Maddison – this time for a fee of £20 million, as claimed by the Leicester Mercury.
With both having dazzled in the Championship, Spurs must end their pursuit of the 22-year-old Grealish and focus on landing the services of Maddison instead, who is just as sought after as the Villa star.
Norwich City have slapped a £20 million price tag on the young midfield goal machine’s head, following his 15 strikes last season, as the East Anglian club look to bring in much-needed cash this summer after the sale of Josh Murphy for £11 million.
The 21-year-old has been prolific during the 2017/2018 campaign, especially in his position as an attacking midfielder – his goal tally is far greater than Grealish’s, who only managed 3 goals in his 34 appearances for Villa.
He has undoubtedly contributed to Norwich’s survival in the Championship through his goal tally of 15 last season, a statistic that Pochettino will be impressed with – and with a record like this, he may be able to push for a regular spot in the Spurs line-up.
His eye for goal means he is able to support the likes of Spurs’ top scorer Harry Kane, sharing the burden and hence taking the pressure off the England captain.
He would undoubtedly contribute more to the team than Grealish, and would relish the opportunity to play alongside the likes of England internationals Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
Maddison and Grealish are both similiar players in terms of style and would be a welcome addition to any team they join, whether that be Premier League or Championship.
The Norwich City midfielder – who made his England Under 21’s debut in 2017 – has the potential to progress and thrive at Tottenham under the guidance of Pochettino, and will surely leave the Spurs faithful drooling at the prospect of his transfer – much more than Grealish.
