Liverpool have missed out on the Brazilian sensation Rodrygo despite an approach, as he will sign for Real Madrid, according to his agent.

Nick Arcuri, the player’s agent, released the news by speaking to Esporte Intervativo in Brazil, and was subsequently translated by the Liverpool Echo.

“We had received offers of Liverpool, PSG and Barcelona, none of them, however, managed to match Santos’s asking price,” revealed Acruri.

“Fifteen days ago Real Madrid chiefs called me to make an official offer to Santos. The proposal of Madrid was high enough for Santos and last week the club gave green light to Rodrygo’s Real Madrid move.”

The Santos attacker is said to be joining the Spanish giants for a fee of £45million but will remain in Brazil until 2019 before the move to Madrid.

OPINION

£45million is a lot of money for a relatively unknown talent, but Santos does have a track record of developing World class talents, such as Neymar. This fee could’ve put Jurgen Klopp off of a move for the young left-winger, who is obviously a work in progress, and will not feature for Real Madrid immediately. The Brazil under-17 star has flashed in recent seasons for Santos, where has broken into the team as a regular starter, but his loan straight back to the Brazilian outfit indicates he is not yet ready. Klopp is showing that he could be investing in the future with his interest in the player, but he is not the ‘win-now’ player that Reds fans so desire, after coming tantalisingly close to silverware of late, including the Champions League final loss to Rodrygo’s new club. After having spent big on Fabinho, and almost landing a deal for Nabil Fekir, Liverpool’s funding could be running dry, which ultimately could have been a causal factor in the Reds losing out on his signature.
