Hull City striker Abel Hernandez is desperate for a move to a club like Newcastle United this summer after he confirmed he would be leaving on a free transfer, according to Hull Daily Mail.

The website claim that with the 27-year-old striker, who netted at a rate of nearly a goal-per-game last season with eight in 10 appearances, set to leave the Tigers for nothing, there are a host of clubs interested in his capture.

With the Chronicle claiming that Newcastle have been engaged in a long-term pursuit of the Uruguayan international, having hunted his capture since his time at Palermo as well as looking at a move last summer, the report from Hull states that Hernandez would be desperate to secure such a move, insisting that he would “jump at the chance” to make the move to the Premier League this summer.

Good move for Newcastle?

Talent is one thing, but the desire to play for a club is something that only comes along so often.

Not every transfer that goes through will see the player delighted to make the move but it appears as though Hernandez would relish the opportunity to shine in front of the Toon Army at St James’ Park.

The Magpies will likely know all about him, having scouted him extensively over the years, and his goal scoring record is pretty decent.

However, his injury record tells another story, with an achilles tendon injury ruling him out for much of last season, and he was still missing games here and there during the final weeks after his return to action.

It is a risky signing, but when it is a freebie, it could be one worth taking.

Likely to happen?

There are lots of clubs chasing his capture and he certainly does not seem to be Benitez’s first choice to bolster the Magpies’ attack.

If he is still available later on in the window, then the club could return, but they seem happy to let him head elsewhere right now, even if he is keen on a move to a club like Newcastle.
