The board at Leeds United are hoping to have a manager in by the end of the week having sacked Paul Heckingbottom before the weekend on June 1st, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, who is one of the most reliable reporters covering goings on at Elland Road, has stated on his personal Twitter account that former Athletic Bilbao and Lille manager Marcelo Bielsa is their number one target but Whites fans may have to wait a couple of days until anything is announced in the crucial timeline.

Heckingbottom was axed after less than four months in charge after winning just four games on the way to guiding the club to a 13th placed finish, leaving owner Andrea Radrizzani seeking his third manager in 12 months, with Bielsa reportedly not guaranteed to get the job.

Opinion

Leeds need to make a quick decision over who they are bringing in to the dugout as it will have a huge impact on the way they move forward in the transfer window. Bielsa might be top choice right now but if they cannot agree on a deal which suits both parties, which will include the sort of spending that will take place over the summer, then they need to quick;y move on to the next man on their shortlist. Securing a new face by the end of the week will be a success for Radrizzani and the rest of the board, but leaving it any longer will just put the club’s success at risk. Whoever steps through the door at Elland Road, they need to make an immediate impact, for the last 12 months have not gone to plan and hopes of pushing on for a play off spot look a long way away.
