Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made a decision about the future of striker Divock Origi at the club, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Reds manager is willing to let the 23-year-old reignite his career at Anfield after falling surplus to requirements, following star striker Mo Salah’s prolific form during the 2017/2018 campaign, with Roberto Firmino’s absence due to his World Cup commitments giving him the opportunity to impress in pre-season.

The Belgian youngster will join his team mates for pre-season next Monday (2 July) and will attempt to regain back a place in the senior squad after a rather disappointing loan spell at Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, who finished 16th in Germany’s top flight.

OPINION

Klopp has been generous to give Origi another shot at getting a place in the senior squad, especially as the young forward has had underwhelming season at Wolfsburg, netting just seven goals in total. With the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane first in the pecking order, Origi will find it difficult to get near the first team, even if the German coach does give him another chance. However, with Firmino currently starring for Brazil in the World Cup, Origi will get the chance to show off his potential as he will miss the beginning of pre-season. With the pre-season friendlies looming, he must now impress Klopp now, or else forget about any call-up to the Premier League giants. Origi was unable to find his rhythm at Wolfsburg due to the club changing managers three times, but he may be able to find it again if he plays under the consistent guidance of Klopp.
