Leeds United are likely to let Lewie Coyle head back on loan to League One side Fleetwood Town this summer as Joey Barton eyes up a move for the right back, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post writer reports on his personal Twitter account that after the paper claimed that the former Newcastle and Burnley midfielder, who is making his first foray into management, was keen on taking the 22-year-old back to Highbury for a reunion with his former team mates, it seems as if the Whites are ready to green light a loan.

Coyle was named as the Cod Army’s player of the year by the fans and the club, and has over 20 appearances for the Whites’ senior side, having come through the youth ranks.

Opinion

It seems as though Leeds’ new boss Marcelo Bielsa already has an idea of who is set to stay and who will be leaving Elland Road this summer as he plots for the new campaign, and Coyle seems to have fallen into the latter category. He impressed while with Fleetwood in League One and some might have thought that he would be given the chance in the Championship, especially after Gaetano Berardi’s struggles and Luke Ayling’s long-term injury. However, it looks as though a return to the Fylde Coast is on the cards, and he may well be wondering what else he has to do to secure his place back in the first team with the Whites. If not now, will he ever be given the opportunity to shine? It seems doubtful, and this could be another nail in the coffin of his career with Leeds. Still, things can quickly change in football.
