Newcastle United are in desperate need of a centre forward this summer after the Toon Army witnessed some of the most diabolical finishing ever seen at St James’ Park.

With Joselu, Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Islam Slimani all called upon to lead the line, it left the Magpies faithful holding their hands in dismay as they watched chance after chance missed by their forwards, and they were fortunate the likes of Ayoze Perez stepped up to lift the burden of his team mates’ shoulders.

A striker must be a priority, but with funds limited, finding a decent option is going to be a tough task for Rafael Benitez – which is why he should be giving former side Liverpool a call to try and pull a favour at Anfield.

The Scottish Sun report that the Reds are willing to send Dominic Solanke out on loan later this summer in a bid to get him some first team football, and that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is using his links to close in on a deal.

Really though the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) England international, who picked up his solitary cap for the Three Lions in the latter half of 2017, should be looking to make a move to another Premier League side if he wants to fashion a future with Liverpool, with the Scottish division a rung or two down the ladder in terms of quality.

With Newcastle desperately needing some attacking threat, the electric forward, who left Chelsea for the Reds last summer, would be an ideal signing for both player and club, giving all parties involved exactly what they need going forward.
