Everton attacker Wayne Rooney has agreed terms on a contract with DC United but crucial negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs, according to The Washington Post.

The American publication state on their website that the 32-year-old has been in talks with the MLS side and has come to an agreement over his personal deal, but that there are still issues to be ironed out over a potential move between the two clubs, despite Sky Sports claiming a deal could be done by Monday.

The report claims that Rooney would earn in the region of £3,745,600-a-year ($5million), which translates to £72,000-a-week.

The swoop is said to be a game changer for DC United, who have reportedly received much business interest from companies willing to invest if the big name signing goes through.

Opinion

Rooney’s return to Everton from Manchester United has not been the swansong he would have wanted and it seems as though this is the final goodbye from Goodison Park. He has not had a bad year with the Toffees, but his move back to Merseyside has certainly not hit the heights expected, and a move away will likely help the club in terms of wages. Of course, his exit could well depend on what new boss Marco Silva wants to do with the experienced forward, and if he deems him a crucial part of his squad then the whole move could be called off. Still, it seems unlikely that Everton would have allowed negotiations to get to this stage if they were not certain he would be allowed to leave and it seems as though the Goodison Park faithful may well have seen the last of their hero for now.
