Everton midfielder Wayne Rooney is in “advanced talks” with MLS outfit DC United, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet claims that the 32-year-old is still in talks with the American club about joining them after more than a month of negotiations, but it appears like a deal is finally close.

It is understood that England’s leading goalscorer at internatonal level is set to end his time in the Premier League by signing a two-year, £3.8million-a-year deal with DC United.

The report details that a move could be finalised by Monday and that the MLS side will not pay Everton a transfer fee, but will have to fork out a “significant proportion” of his the last year on his £180,000-a-week contract at Goodison Park.

Rooney is believed to have an agreement in place with the Toffees that will allow him to return as a coach in the future.

Good move for Everton?

Rooney proved to be a useful player during the 2017/18 season for the Merseyside club and there is a feeling he may be departing England too soon.

He has transformed from a centre-forward to a midfielder over the years and managed 11 goals in 40 appearances for the Toffees this season from the middle of the park.

The deep-lying playmaker surely could have featured in the plans of new manager Marco Silva, but nobody could deny him his move to the US after his incredible impact on the Premier League from his time with Manchester United.
