Everton finalise sale of Conor Grant to Plymouth

|

Everton have finalised the sale of Conor Grant to Plymouth, who has agreed terms with the Devon-based side after a failed loan attempt to move there last season, Argyle confirmed on their official website.

Grant, 23, ends a 10-year association with the Toffees, having joined their academy setup as a 13-year-old boy back in 2008.

However, the 23-year-old midfielder leaves Goodison Park having never once made an appearance in the first team of his boyhood club, despite multiple successful loan spells away.

Argyle’s manager, Derek Adams, attempted to secure Grant on a six-month loan deal during last season, but the deal fell through due to regulations prohibiting the midfielder playing for two teams during one term.

OPINION

Grant joins Plymouth Argyle as his Everton contract ran out, which indicates that Everton saw no future for the midfielder at Goodison Park. One thing that is clear is how highly Grant is rated down in Devon, as the Argyle manager previously tried to sign the 23-year-old last season, only for the move to break down. It is likely that Grant will receive much more game-time than at previous clubs, where he was just a loanee, as the midfielder never got to play for Everton’s first team. The clubs that Grant has played at prior to Argyle outline his ability to play at the SkyBet League One level, having represented Doncaster Rovers on two separate occasions, as well as playing for Championship side Ipswich. Grant will no doubt have a chip on his shoulder following his release from Everton, so Argyle fans can look forward to watching Grant prove himself at Home Park.
