Tottenham have extended the contract of Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm through 2019, the club has confirmed.

The London based outfit released the news by means of their official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon:

The 34-year-old senior player joined Spurs from Swansea back in 2014, signing a four-year contract with the option of a fifth-year addition.

The Dutch international has been a stellar number two to current Spurs starter Hugo Lloris, and has made 11 appearances in his absence over the years for Tottenham.

Vorm impressed enough during his time at Swansea to warrant Spurs parting ways with £3.5million to secure him, as the Dutchman was one part of a three-headed trade, including Ben Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Mauricio Pochettino will rest easy tonight, knowing that his team are in safe hands should anything happen to current starter Lloris. Vorm is an international calibre player, having represented Holland on and off since 2008, and has shown that quality during his time in the Premier League. The Dutchman is coming to the end of his career, already aged at 34, but that has not stopped him thus far, impressing on his sporadic first-team appearances for Spurs. His experience has no doubt helped young keeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who has also impressed when he has had the chance to play for the first-team. At this stage in his career, one might ask why he is not seeking ventures new and more regular football, as you never know when you’ve played your last game. However, in saying that, it is easy to see why a player would want to stay, as the club has progressed astronomically in recent seasons.
