Everton striker Calum Dyson is on the verge of leaving his boyhood club with Plymouth Argyle set to snap him up, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The reliable Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that the south coast League One outfit are close on securing a deal for the Toffees’ 21-year-old centre forward after he failed to make the grade at senior level.

The youngster has spent time out on loan at the likes of Grimsby Town and Chester FC, but spent last season with the under 23 side at Goodison Park, managing to make just three appearances for Everton’s reserve side, chipping in with a solitary assist.

Opinion

Everyone knows that not every youngster that comes through the system is going to make it at the very top and that certainly applies to Dyson. The young Liverpool-born forward looked like he might have a bright career ahead of him two seasons ago, when he was shipped out to League Two side Grimsby and was a regular starter in the senior side there, but the last campaign would have been a big blow to both his development and confidence. Not heading out on loan again limited his playing time and then to find himself struggling to break into the reserve side would have been a hammer blow. He needs a fresh start and with no future at Everton, a drop down to League One certainly will not be the worst thing he could have done. He might considering himself lucky a third tier side are taking that gamble on him after so long without a game.
