Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj is currently undergoing a medical at Championship rivals Hull City, according to Football Insider.

The football site claim that the American is having a medical at the KCOM Stadium after a fee was agreed between the two Championship sides.

City are hoping to finalise the transfer imminently, after chasing the 29-year-old’s signature for the last few months, as manager Nigel Adkins seeks defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.

The former Aston Villa defender would have been out of contract at The City Ground next summer, after signing on a free transfer from the Midlands club in 2013, and has proven to be an astute signing.

OPINION

I’m not surprised that Hull City are looking at someone like Eric Lichaj, the American defender is capable in a number of defensive positions and has proven to be a consistent performer over the last few years. Forest will not only miss his defensive abilities but also his leadership qualities, which are invaluable to a squad’s harmony and mentality. I hope this doesn’t signal a selling spree at The City Ground, as manager Aitor Karanka has a number of excellent young players, who he’ll need to keep if they are to push on in this division. For Nigel Adkins, this signing bodes well for the future as they look to make a return to the Premier League after getting relegated in 2017, it didn’t work out for former boss Leonid Slutsky last season, but fans will hope Adkins’ experience can lead them back to the top division of English football in this campaign.
