Leeds are facing tough opposition to sign former Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, as Turkish giants Galatasaray have now joined the race for his signature, according to Fanatik.

The Yorkshire based club have been heavily linked with a move for the Uruguyuan striker, with Leeds-Live claiming they are on the verge of agreeing terms, but their chance of landing his signature has seemingly taken a significant hit.

It is reported that Galatasaray are preparing to offer Hernandez a three-year contract, paying £1.76million per year, and will attempt to use the striker’s compatriot Fernando Muslera as a bargaining tool.

Leeds are desperate for a new striker, and Hernandez has a proven goal-scoring track record at the Championship level, but the White’s will have to pull out all the stops to land his signature at this point.

OPINION

Abel Hernandez is exactly the sort of player that Leeds need if they are to push onward towards the playoffs. He is an established Championship goalscorer, with a big body and pace on the ball. However, the attraction to join such a team as Galatasaray will be strong, and the reported contract offer will be hard to compete with. Leeds will have to move fast if they are to secure the Uruguayan’s signature, as the Turkish alternative is an attractive one. Wolves and Celtic are both said to be interested in Hernandez’s services also, so this move is going to come down to player preference, and with the Uruguayan link it could be thought that Galatasaray are in pole position to land the striker. The Whites hopes of landing the striker have certainly gone down, although he did leave fans with a tantalising hint on his Twitter page last week.
