Leeds United have finally agreed a deal with Marcelo Bielsa as the Argentine puts pen to paper on a two year contract to fill the vacant manager’s seat, according to top Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The reliable reporter, who has constantly been one of the most reputed sources of footballing news, states on his personal website that the Whites have got the former Lille boss to put pen to paper on a two year contract, and that an official announcement is set to be made imminently.

Bielsa will be taking charge after Paul Heckingbottom’s sacking over two weeks ago, and is reportedly targeting promotion to the Premier League at Elland Road.

Opinion

It is about time that Leeds pulled this move off, and what and ambitious bit of business it is. Bielsa is a cut above nearly every other Championship manager in terms of his experience and reputation, and while that does not guarantee promotion by any means – look at Steve Bruce and Aston Villa, who fell at the final hurdle despite their manager’s experience in the league – it certainly looks like an improvement on Thomas Christiansen and Heckingbottom. With a deal done, it is time for Leeds to pull their finger out in the transfer market and get strengthening the side so that it is at a level to compete for the top six. That will take some doing, considering the current squad were only able to finish 13th in the Championship last season, and the change in the dugout could be followed by a major switch up in the senior squad.
