Nottingham Forest are ready to smash their record transfer fee by over double with a swoop for Benfica midfielder Joao Carvalho this summer, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese outlet report on their website that Forest are set to splash out on a £13million bid for the young 5’6″ (source: Transfermarkt) maestro from the side who finished second in Portugal’s top flight, as they look to bolster their squad in their aim to gain promotion from the Championship next season.

The stunning fee will demolish their previous record of £5.5 million, which was set when they signed Britt Assombalonga from Peterborough four years ago.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

After finishing in a lowly 17th place in their last campaign, Forest are certainly in need of a fresh injection of talent before the new season begins in August.

Carvalho provided four assists in 15 appearances for his club last season, which would be a welcome boost for Forest who struggled to find the net too often throughout the 2017/2018 season.

A player like Carvalho would provide the service they so desperately need to challenge for the promotion spots and climb up the goal scoring charts again.

At 21, he is still young, but Forest could be an excellent opportunity for Carvalho to gain some game experience in a competitive league.

Although this lack of experience may scare off other clubs, he would be a worthy addition to a team who are lacking goals.

Likely to happen?

If no other clubs show an interest in Carvalho, then it is likely Forest will break their record transfer fee in order to bring him to the City Ground.

With the midfielder needing more experience and Forest needing to add some flair to their squad, it seems like the perfect opportunity for both parties.

All Forest need to do now is break the transfer fee and show that they really want him.
