Marcelo Bielsa must make AZ Alkmaar forward Wout Weghorst his first summer signing at Leeds United to help spearhead the Whites’ attack as they aim to get back to into the Premier League.

The Dutch international had a sensational season last term for AZ, netting a whopping 27 goals through the 37 games he played in across all competitions.

Transfermarkt has his current value estimated at €7million, roughly converting to £6.1million, which is well within Leeds price range, and his wage is not likely to be a sticking point playing in the Dutch league.

Weghorst would represent a marquee signing, and the Dutch presence already found in the team with Vurnon Anita and Jay-Roy Grot would make life comfortable for the 25-year-old.

Although defensive inconsistencies hindered the Whites last season, it certainly cannot be a disadvantage to strengthen the forward lines, where Leeds currently are not too strong.

Weghorst is an upgrade to Pierre-Michel Lasogga who only found the net just 10 times last season, and would link up well with top-scorer Kemar Roofe to form a formidable partnership up front.

Bielsa’s known for his attacking formations and creativeness on the pitch, often playing a 4-3-3 formation, which would work to Weghorst’s strengths.

The 6ft 4in colossus [Transfermarkt] must be Bielsa’a first signing as Leeds United manager to boost the Whites hopes of promotion.
