Steven Gerrard is keen on signing Liverpool centre-forward Dominic Solanke at Rangers, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 20-year-old tops Gerrard’s wishlist for potential transfer targets after he was confirmed as the next Gers manager on Friday.

It is understood that he wants to take the English striker on loan to Ibrox from Premier League outfit Liverpool.

Gerrard will take charge of the Light Blues on a four-year deal from the 1 June and has managed to land his first senior role in management in Scotland.

The 37-year-old will leave his role of Liverpool’s Under-18s coach, but appears to be keen on a raid of the Merseyside club for a senior player.

Good move for Rangers?

Solanke has become a first-team regular following his move from Chelsea to Liverpool in the summer, making 25 appearances across all competitions.

The England Under-21 international is seen as a big star for the future, but is nowhere near the finished article and is yet to find the net for Liverpool.

He showed during a loan spell two years ago with Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem that he can be efficient, scoring seven goals in just 26 games for them.

A move to Scotland to continue his development would make sense to link up with Gerrard and if he hits the ground running he could be a major hit at Ibrox.

Likely to happen?

Rangers are now likely to be linked with a shedload of Liverpool players due to his connections and it would be no surprise to see a few arrive at the club.

A loan exit for Solanke would appear to make sense, but it’s still unclear whether Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would sanction the exit and has given him a fair amount of first-team opportunities this season.
