Wolves have activated their option to sign defender Willy Boly on a permanent basis, a Porto club official has confirmed.

Porto director of communications Francisco J. Marques has announced that Wanderers have triggered a clause in Boly’s loan deal at Molineux that allows them to sign him in a deal worth £10.5million.

“And 12 million [Euros] from Boly, because Wolverhampton have already activated the option,” Marques told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

It is not the only option-to-buy clause that Wolves have been said to have triggered as Nuno Espirito Santo edges closer to a double swoop worth a combined £23million.

Sky Sports has reported that the Championship title-winners will trigger their £12.5million option to sign DR Congo international Benik Afobe from Bournemouth.

It is understood that Wolves are at an “advanced stage” of talks to snap up the former Arsenal striker permanently.

Good move for Wolves?

Boly will be a very good signing for the Molineux club after a stunning season in the Championship while on loan from Porto.

Not only was the Frenchman’s defensive performances simply outstanding, his range of passing would see him not look out of place in one of the Premier League’s top-six clubs.

Some of Wolves’ best goals came from some of Boly’s play out of the back and the £10.5million fee that they will sign him for is an excellent piece of business for the West Midlands club.

Likely to happen?

With Porto’s chief Marquez confirming that the deal in on the cards, there’s little reason to think why it would not happen.

The only thing that could hold up the deal is another club coming in with an offer or Boly turning around a saying he would rather stay at Porto – with the latter seeming unlikely.
