Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is on the verge of exiting Anfield with Juventus confident they will be completing his capture by the end of the week, according to Sky Sports in Italy.

The British Sky Sports report on their official Twitter account that their Italian counterparts state that the Serie A champions are working on snapping up the 24-year-old on a free transfer, with his contract expiring at the Reds, and that a deal will be done over the coming days.

The 20-cap German international has played 167 times for Liverpool since joining from Bayer Leverkusen and managed to appear 38 times across the last campaign, a back injury limiting his game time in the final weeks of the season.

Opinion

Losing Can for a free will be one of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest disappointments but keeping him on last summer, when he had just a year left to go on his contract, was a big risk that in the end has not paid off. The Reds should have found out the German international’s future plans sooner and made a decision there and then, for if he had no intention of putting pen to paper, then they could have sold him and at least made some money over his exit. Still, at least this saga can be put behind Liverpool heading into the summer and they now know they have a gap in the centre of the midfield – a problem which must be sorted out by some new recruits. Will they find anyone who can fill Can’s boots for a reasonable price tag? They might have already got their man in the shape of Fabinho, but there will likely be more new faces in the centre of the park before the summer is out.
