Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of agreeing fresh new terms with defender Joe Gomez – and it’s a great piece of business by the Merseyside club.

The Sun claims that Gomez, 21, is set to have his contract extended on top of a payrise which will see him earn £50,000-a-week.

Gomez has been in great form for Liverpool this season and would have undoubtedly been on England’s plane to Russia if he had not picked up an injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup.

It is understood that Jurgen Klopp still has plans to use the former Charlton defender in his first team squad next season, and that should not even be up for debate as he is destined for success at Anfield.

It’s easy to forget that Gomez is only 21-years-old.

The three-times England international is only going to keep on improving and getting him tied down for the foreseeable future makes perfect sense.

Gomez made 31 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season before suffering his season-ending injury.

Before the start of this campaign, he had only ever played in the senior squad 10 times, which shows just how far he has come in the last 12 months.

If he can keep fit next season, there’s no doubt that Gomez could potentially play in all of Liverpool’s key games and help them mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.
