Rangers have missed the chance to sign Australian midfielder James Jeggo after he left Sturm Graz to sign for Austrian rivals Rapid Wien, according the the World Game.

The Australian news outlet claims that Rangers were in the hunt to sign Jeggo, 26, before he moved to the Austrian capital on a three-year deal.

It is understood that the midfield dynamo had a number of options on the table, however it was ultimately Rapid Wien who won the race to his signature.

Jeggo made 37 appearances in all competitions for Graz this season, scoring one goal in the process which coincidentally came against his new team-mates in April.

OPINION

Jeggo looks like a decent midfielder and probably would have been a good addition at Ibrox, but Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen won’t be kicking themselves after missing out on one of their targets. Rangers will more than likely have a wide range of players on their radar for the summer transfer window as an overhaul of the first team squad is definitely on the cards. Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy have already been signed up on permanent deals in what was a quickfire triple swoop for the Light Blues. Gerrard will surely want to continue stamping his own authority on the squad when he officially takes charge next month, so it can be expected that the Gers will sign up even more players before the Europa League qualifier rounds much like Pedro Caixinha did last year. Rangers will just surely be hoping that they will avoid Progres Niederkorn again.
