Everton are closing in on hiring former Marco Silva, with sources close to the deal saying that there is a “99 per cent” chance that the former Watford and Hull manager will succeed Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed on their live transfer blog on Tuesday [11:47am] that Silva, 40, is yet to hold discussions about summer transfers, however those talks are expected to take place soon.

Everton sacked Allardyce at the end of the season after the ex-England manager led the club to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Good move for Everton?

Silva should be a decent appointment at Goodison Park, but the fact that he has not really had any kind of longevity in his recent jobs is a cause for concern.

For all his hard work at Hull, they were relegated from the Premier League and he jumped ship straight away for Watford.

At Vicarage Road he started well until he was wanted by Everton and then the club’s form dropped and he was eventually sacked.

Will he last more than a season at Everton? He will have to finish in at least seventh place and play good football to secure himself a second season.

Likely to happen?

It seems as though the appointment will be made in the coming days.

Sky Sports’ sources say that there is a 99 per cent chance of the Portuguese being hired, and with such a high percentage, it’d be bizarre if someone else was to come in now.
