Russell Martin has revealed that while he loved playing for a club the size of Rangers, he felt they were “all over the place,” in a statement which is unlikely to earn him a move back to the Scottish giants.

The 32-year-old senior player joined the Light Blues on a six-month loan move back in January from Norwich City and failed to impress at the back where he strummed up a partnership alongside the recently departed David Bates.

However, injuries tore apart the heart of defence as the Gers eventually ended the season in third place.

And Martin’s latest comments in the Eastern Daily Press would end any chance that he might return north and said: “For me it was a bit wrong place, wrong time.

“The club was a bit all over the place and then a change of manager, who was an interim manager anyway (Graeme Murty).

“But I loved playing for a football club of that size and that support.”

OPINION:

With one year remaining n his contract at Carrow Road, and the fact that he has been informed by the club that he does not really have a future there due to his age, you would think he is the type of player that Rangers would be looking to sign on a permanent basis. Martin has admitted that he will “consider all options” as the Canaries seemingly do not want him at the club but having described Rangers as chaotic and the “wrong place” for him, they are words that will not go down well with the Light Blues and we cannot see there is any way he will return to Ibrox despite impressing during his short stint north of the border. Steven Gerrard is looking for experience at the back and having been priced out a move for Martin Skrtel, the Scot could have been the perfect solution. But it looks as though the 32-year-old would not be keen on a permanent switch there either.
