West Ham’s new manager Manuel Pellegrini has his work cut out to get his side fighting for the European spots next season and he can’t hope to do that unless has massively improves the defence.

The Hammers were far too vulnerable at the back and conceded 68 goals in their 38 Premier League matches.

They could do with adding some reinforcements during the summer transfer window and a couple of extra centre-backs would be ideal, especially if they continue with three at the back.

One man that should crop up on their radar is Bristol City defender Aden Flint, who has once again impressed in the Championship and looks destined to make the step up to the Premier League.

However, West Ham would have to nudge Premier League new boys Fulham to one side to land his signature.

News outlet HITC reports that Fulham are lining up a move for Flint after their promotion via the Championship play-off final at the expense of Aston Villa.

It is understood that Bristol City are bracing themselves for interest for their 28-year-old defender, despite the fact he penned a new contract in March.

He is a 6ft 5 (source: Transfermrkt) giant enforcer that has been formidable in England’s second-tier and could be a real hit in the top flight.

Flint is a no-nonsense defender that is brilliant in the air and also reads play exceptionally well, something he demonstrated during Bristol City’s run to the EFL Cup semi-finals this season.

He also adds an extra goal threat that is a huge bonus for teams, as he provided nine goals in 46 appearances this season.

West Ham should certainly look to bring him to the London Stadium during the peak years of his career and he could certainly force his way into the starting XI if he hits the ground running.

Pellegrini’s side need to blow London rivals Fulham to smithereens by securing a deal for Flint and his signature would be an excellent start to the summer.
