Everton are just days away from announcing Marco Silva as their next manager, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday [11:19pm] that the Toffees are confident of unveiling Silva as Sam Allardyce’s successor before the weekend after they reached an agreement in principle with the former Watford and Hull boss.

It is understood that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri believes he can confirm the appointment of the Portuguese manager despite an on-going issue with Watford over the perceived “illegal approach” for him last October.

Good move for Everton?

Aside from almost leading Hull to safety in 2016/17 and having a good start to the season at Watford, what has Silva really done?

He plays good football and has shown that he can inject clubs with a good run of form, but he has not done it on a long-term scale and there has to be doubts over his ability after he seemed to have checked out at Vicarage Road after Everton tried to hire him last year.

Allardyce had to be sacked after failing to win over the fans with his brand of football, but at least that got results.

Silva can get Everton playing attractive and expansive football, but will he be able to get them to launch an assault on the top-six? It seems unlikely that he will even last the entire season given his record.

Likely to happen?

It seems that it is now just a matter of when and not if Everton will hire Silva.

Moshiri has been in the hunt for him for some time and with this issue with Watford close to a resolution, it seems that the Toffees will have the green light to announce him as Allardyce’s successor within a few days’ time.
