Rangers are on the verge of signing Brighton defender Connor Goldson with Steven Gerrard prepared to pay £20,000-a-week for the 25-year-old, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [01:52am] that the Light Blues are close to wrapping up a £3million swoop for the former Shrewsbury centre-back, who will become the Glasgow club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy have all been confirmed to have signed for Rangers on a permanent basis, and now it seems that Liverpool-mad Goldson is set to join Gerrard’s revolution at Ibrox.

Good move for Rangers?

As long as Goldson can pass his medical and keep himself fit, then he will be a great signing for Gerrard, who reportedly made him his top transfer target.

Goldson underwent heart surgery just over a year ago and only made eight appearances in all competitions for Brighton this season.

Hopefully there will be no recurrences of the centre-back’s heart problem that almost saw his football career come to an end.

He should be a solid addition to the Gers defence though and is better than anyone that the club currently has playing there.

Likely to happen?

It does seem as though this deal will go through eventually and judging by recent reports, it’s just a matter of when and not if.

Goldson appears keen on a move to Ibrox to play for his idol Gerrard while Brighton look as though they want to cash in on the centre-back as long as they get the right price.

Goldson’s medical is the real worry due to his previous heart surgery, but it’s unlikely that there will be any problems.
