Celtic have been handed a major boost in their attempts to sign Odsonne Edouard this summer with talks able to go on until mid-June rather than the end of May, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper report on their website that the Hoops are advancing in talks with Paris St Germain after his impressive loan spell at Parkhead and that claims from France that a deal would have to be wrapped up before the end of the month are wide of the mark.

Instead it is stated that a deal to turn his temporary move into a permanent one, which could see the Bhoys smash their record spend with a fee of up to £8million, £2million more than what was spent on Chris Sutton, must be done before June 16th, leaving Celtic plenty of time to negotiate with the French giants and boosting their chances of getting it over the line.

Good move for Celtic?

Edouard might have been brought in as a third choice forward behind Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths but injuries have meant that the PSG loanee has seen much more action than expected – and the 20-year-old has lived up to and exceeded expectations.

He is a rough gem in terms of his ability but he has plenty of potential to grow into, which is why there will be such a hefty fee slapped on his head.

There will be some Celtic fans questioning if he is worth the cash but if he can develop into a proven hitman on both the domestic and European stage, he can fire the club to success, and, if the Hoops wish, be sold on for a healthy profit.

Likely to happen?

Now that there is more time than expected, the Bhoys will feel much more confident over getting a deal done, for negotiations can be much more detailed and the nitty gritty can be sorted out.

Edouard has spoken about his desire to be a Hoop next season and if the clubs can agree on terms then it all looks like it will go ahead.
