Celtic fans will be pleased to know that Rangers are struggling to meet the wage demands of Martin Skrtel, after the Fenerbahce defender’s agent confirmed that the Ibrox club can only afford around 20 per cent of his £60,000-a-week wages.

Karol Csonto has claimed that although the Slovakia international wants to reunite with his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard at Ibrox this summer, the finances that the Light Blues have been offering are way below expectations.

Skrtel’s agent has been quoted by the Mirror in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [09:33am] as saying that Rangers can only afford 20 to 25 per cent of the defender’s current wages at Fenerbahce.

The Daily Record has reported that Skrtel earns £60,000-a-week, which means that the Gers have offered up to £15,000-a-week for the defender who is a mainstay at a Champions League club that is fighting for domestic titles.

Gerrard’s arrival at Rangers prompted a lot of talk that the Govan club could catch up to their bitter rivals Celtic next season with the Liverpool legend set to attract a host of top names.

The bookies went crazy after the ex-England international took his first step into management, linking Rangers with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres and John Terry.

However if the Light Blues are that financially restricted when trying to sign a top player, Hoops fans have absolutely nothing to worry about and will steamroll to their eighth Scottish Premiership title in a row in the 2018/19 campaign.
