Celtic are on the verge of completing a £5million deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Odsonne Edouard on a permanent basis, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [10:38am] that talks are ongoing between the Scottish and French champions and the 20-year-old could soon become Brendan Rodgers’ first signing of the summer.

It is understood that a deadline has been set for June 16 for Celtic to sign Edouard, who scored 11 goals in 29 appearances for them across all competitions while on loan this season.

Good move for Celtic?

Odsonne has proved in the last season that he has the ability to be one of the best centre-forwards in Scottish football.

The Frenchman forced Leigh Griffiths down the pecking order and once he started to feature more regularly, he became a real weapon in Rodgers’ arsenal as the Hoops stormed to a second domestic treble in a row.

Edouard started just 12 times in the Scottish Premiership for the Bhoys this season, but still managed to score nine goals, with three of them against Rangers.

For £5million, he is an absolutely brilliant signing.

Likely to happen?

As it has been widely reported that Celtic have an option-to-buy clause in Edouard’s loan deal at Parkhead, there’s a huge chance that this deal will go through within the coming weeks.

A deadline has been set and the Bhoys should be able to complete his signing by then.

It would be a massive shock to not see Edouard playing in the green and white hoops next season.
