Turkish side Besiktas are plotting a bargain swoop to try and snap up Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos this summer, according to Fanatik.

The sports news outlet from Turkey claim that the club who finished fourth in the Super Lig this season just gone are conducting an overhaul of their attacking options, with Morelos behind former Newcastle and Chelsea forward Demba Ba on their shortlist.

The Light Blues’ 21-year-old, who stands at 5’8″ (source: Transfermarkt), enjoyed his debut season in Scotland, netting 18 goals in 43 appearances, but despite his fine form, Besiktas, who reached the last 16 of the Champions League this year, are said to believe a fee of just £1.7million (€2million).

Opinion

While Morelos might have gone off the boil somewhat in the latter stages of the season, you would struggle to find a Rangers fan who would be willing to offload him for such a nominal fee. On his day he was a nightmare to defend against and that was without a season of Scottish football under his belt. With his experience, he could well go on to be a potent goalscorer and it will take much more than £1.7million to prise him away from Ibrox. The Gers will likely not be actively looking to sell him but as with any of their stars, if the price is beneficial for the club, then they will have to take it in order to try catch up with Celtic. Morelos certainly did not enjoy the best of times against the Hoops and so another striker coming in could help take the load off his back in the Old Firm derbies.
