Rangers’ director of football Mark Allen has been engaged in crucial conversations over the past couple of days with transfer targets as the club’s business ramps up, according to a club insider.

Twitter account Four Lads Had a Dream, who have established themselves as a reliable source of information at Ibrox, report that the former Manchester City chief has been working behind-the-scenes over potential new recruits, including meeting with the players themselves to discuss a move to Glasgow.

The Gers already have three signings under their belt in the shape of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy, but it appears as though the Gers are taking it to the next level with the imminent arrival of Steven Gerrard, who takes over as manager on Friday.

Opinion

Fans should know by now that just because there is not anything going on on the surface, it does not mean that behind the closed doors at Ibrox there are not crucial developments being made. This is a summer of revolution for the Gers and after last summer’s overhaul went head over heels under Pedro Caixinha, there will be an expectation to get it right 12 months later. Mark Allen has already pulled off what looks like three very good signings for the Gers and there will be the hope that the club’s activity continues in the same manner, for there are some serious improvements needed if the Light Blues are ever going to close the gap, let alone catch, their fierce rivals Celtic. It could be that they are waiting for Gerrard’s imminent arrival, and once the Liverpool legend is through the door, there could well be big changes at Ibrox.
