Sky Sports presenter Jim White has claimed that Graeme Murty is set to be sacked as Rangers manager ahead of their Premiership clash v Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Murty has overseen two heavy Old Firm defeats to Celtic in recent weeks, the first a 4-0 stuffing in the Scottish Cup semi-finals before a 5-0 drubbing to hand the Hoops the league title on Sunday.

Speculation has been rife about Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard taking over as Rangers boss this summer, and according to White, Murty is now set to be relieved of his duties.

White made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning:

OPINION

While this would seem a bit of a pointless move from Rangers with the end of the season so close, the fact is that Murty’s position at Ibrox has become untenable in recent weeks. The former youth coach has shown his inexperience during their two heavy Old Firm defeats, and fans have unfortunately turned on him pretty emphatically. Their performances in those games were rightly viewed as unacceptable, and Murty being let go was the expected move. It is not clear who will take charge of the side until the end of the season, or whether Murty will return to his original job as development coach, but fans will no doubt be happy to see the back of him as manager.
