Former England and Arsenal captain Tony Adams has urged Aston Villa defender John Terry to join him in China.

The Gunners legend is currently acting as a consultant for a number of clubs in the Chinese Super League but feels that the ex-Chelsea ace would suit a switch across continents.

As quoted in The Sun, Adams said: “Come and join me in China.

“I was ready and I’d been at one club but John has a different version.

“I wanted to go five minutes too early rather than five minutes too late.

“His experience would see him do a job at a club, for sure.”

Terry only signed for Villa last summer and is out of contract at the end of June.

With Villa beaten in the Championship final, the club will be unable to keep hold of the 37-year-old stalwart, who commands wages reported to be in the region of £60,000-a-week.

OPINION

China would be a good move for the defender and the MLS too, as both would be able to match Terry’s wage demands. The centre-back has been in fine form for Villa this season since his arrival and were it not for him, it is unlikely they would have found themselves in with a sniff of making it back to the top-flight. These are worrying times for the Birmingham club who really needed to get back into the Premier League this time around with their parachute payments which aided their relegation into the Championship set to decrease as well as their need to fall in line with Financial Fair Play restrictions, this summer could see the exit of not just Terry, but a host of first-team stars as the club’s future looks increasingly uncertain. We can see the former Chelsea great hot-footing it to the Super League this summer.
