John Hartson suggested that Celtic defender Kieran Tierney can “buck the trend” by remaining a one-man club for his entire career.

The former Hoops forward delivered his verdict on Bournemouth’s interest in signing the £20million-rated, as reported by the Scottish Sun, left-back in his latest column for the Evening Times.

“As we head into the silly season you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be transfer stories all summer about Kieran Tierney, it’s an indication of the esteem in which the lad is held,” wrote Hartson in his column for the Evening Times.

“But £20m from Bournemouth? Give me a break. I’m not having that. I wouldn’t be entertaining that for a second.

“First things first, Celtic don’t want to sell and the boy doesn’t want to go, second of all, how high he goes is entirely up to him.”

Tierney has spent his entire career at the Hoops and is contracted to stay at Parkhead until 2023.

Hartson continued expressing his views on the 20-year-old’s potential exit from his former club and shared that who is to say he won’t stay where he is for the rest of his career.

“Who is to say that he doesn’t buck the trend and decide to be a one-man club?” rhetoircally asked the retired forward.

“It’s no-one else’s decision to make other than his, there will always be offers on the table if you are playing as well as he is.”

OPINION

Tierney is arguably Celtic’s biggest asset as the defender is not only young, but he’s an important member of the club’s first-team. Tierney has submitted so many dazzling performances, it’s easy to agree with Hartson’s assessment that the left-back will always have offers. The 20-year-old featured 52 times for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season and it’s hard to imagine him choosing to leave anytime soon. Tierney is able to get the game time needed for his career to flourish at Parkhead, while consistently lifting trophies. While the Hoops’ resolve over keeping the defender hasn’t been tested by an official offer as of yet, there’s no way they’re not going to fight to keep the defender at the club for his entire career.
