West Ham players feel it would be a big gamble by manager David Moyes if he exiled Andy Carroll from the squad, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper claim that the Hammers’ players are concerned by their side’s lack of squad depth and believe leaving the 29-year-old forward, who is capable of scoring important goals, out of the team would be a risk.

The Guardian report that the current playing squad don’t want to see Carroll left out even though many believe the centre-forward is the one in the wrong after clashing with Moyes.

It is believed that Moyes and Carroll had a row during training as the forward didn’t hide his frustration about not being brought on as a substitute during the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Guardian’s report states that Carroll refused to apologise for his behaviour, which caused the Hammers manager to have to send the forward home from training.

Ahead of facing Leicester City on Saturday, the Hammers are only three points above the bottom three after winning just one of their past eight games.

According to The Guardian, Moyes is considering dropping Carroll from his squad for the match against the Foxes.

OPINION

It’s highly doubtful that Carroll will play for the Hammers again, at least why Moyes is manager. The Scottish manager’s reputation as a tough disciplinarian is well-known and he won’t back down under any circumstance. It’s bizarre that the Hammers’ players are concerned about Carroll missing any games, as they should be used to it by now. The 29-year-old may have a knack for getting goals at vital times, but his injury record is shockingly bad. It’s more of a surprise when he is fit and able to play rather than when he is ruled out through injury. However while Moyes won’t like his players being concerned, if the Guardian’s report is correct, he’ll be thrilled that they’re on his side after his recent argument with Carroll.
